ITV is asked not to use Wish lanterns

A recent plea for ITV to take footage of wish lanterns, used as a general promotion film in between longer broadcasts, has been made by the NFU, or the National Farmers Union. The request has come as the Union believe that the showing of the film footage will continue to encourage the use of wish lanterns, which cause danger to agricultural areas, increasing the risk of fire if used incorrectly and without following safety precautions, the Union says. A recent blaze at a farm in Oxen has been blamed on lanterns being used irresponsibly.

Here at Wish lantern HQ, much debate has ensued as a result of this report published in The Telegraph. We have come to the conclusion that many safety precautions can be observed before a using wish lanterns, such as checking for trees, tall buildings and telephone wires, keeping distance from them. Staying away from agricultural and residential areas is also wise.

Wish lanterns and the Chinese Zodiac

One thing that you’ll know about us by now is that we love wish lanterns, and all the joy they bring to so many people who use them for their special occasions. What you may or may not know is how much we love the Chinese culture, which gave us wish lanterns in the first place, and that we find the Chinese Zodiac a particularly fascinating idea. So, this week, we thought we’d delve a little deeper into the personalities of some of our team, according to the Chinese Zodiac, and share our findings with you…

Dan (born 1974): Being compassionate and willing to help others whenever they need aid is something that comes with being a ‘wood tiger’, as our Dan is. We can always rely on him!

Marita (born 1982): Marita the ‘water dog’ is, according to the Chinese zodiac, faithful and flexible, relaxed and affectionate. As someone who did so well as account manager, now we know how she kept all our clients so happy!

Patrick (born 1990): Patrick is a ‘water horse’, meaning he’s free-spirited and a open-minded thinker. Great for someone who helps keep things creative and fun within the company.

Dave (born 1979): The only ‘earth goat’ in the office, it seems Dave would be the most conservative and independent member of the team. He’s someone who appreciates the little things, such as wish lanterns at a special event.

Wish lanterns appear in Tesco Advert

Shopping is a great love of ours here at Wish lantern HQ, which is why we’re so delighted to see how Tesco, one of the UK’s favourite stores and a company that have enjoyed success across the world-even opening branches in Malaysia-have decided to invest in some wish lanterns in their latest advertising campaign about the mobile phone deals that their customers can take advantage of in store. The commercial itself involves several beautiful-looking people, speaking of their individual quests to find new things in the world- new ways of looking for and seeing beauty, new ways to communicate, creating new dreams for oneself, new wishes that come true that are helped along by the releasing of wish lanterns…and then we see the guy at the end who simply wants a new phone every twelve months. Simple.

Although we love watching the telly, we can’t always keep our eyes peeled as much as we might like to for new advertisements featuring our beloved wish lanterns, so we need your help. Wish lanterns and Summer Theatre

There are so many things we love about summer- the weather for starters, be able to go to barbeques and wear sunglasses, and of course the endless summer evenings. We recently took advantage of one of the aforementioned dusk-times, and held our very own mini-theatre festival in the back garden of our Soph, who also laid on a barbeque and drinkies. Lovely. The idea was very simple: anyone could get up on “stage” and perform anything they pleased, which worked out pretty well- we had a puppet show, some comedy, and even political satire. To round off the evening, we released wish lanterns in a variety of colours, just to add something special to a wonderful night, and make happy wishes in the spirit of it all.

So if you’re stuck for something to do at any time this summer, why not hold your own evening of entertainment- if you get your pals to do it, it’s free! Wish Lanterns and Winning the Lottery

Over the years, we’ve heard of people wishing for all sorts of things, hoping their dreams will come true when they release their wish lanterns, and watch them float serenely away, never knowing what will come to pass. One thing we do know is that among our staff, and our friends and family, quite a few of us wouldn’t mind (understatement of the year) winning the lottery, so we had a quick whip around the office to see what people would buy if their wildest wish lanterns wishings really did come true…

“I think I’d like a house with a swimming pool, and a fish tank built into the wall”, said Sophie. “I also could do with high tea at the Ritz”.

“Oh no”, said Rob, “fast cars with huge sound systems are much more exciting”.

To round off the debate, Roman piped up with, “I’d like to roll down a hill in one of those inflatable ball things. Maybe even buy myself one, so I could ride whenever I pleased!”.
